Lois Beck's book chosen as an Outstanding Academic Title by Choice Magazine

Nomads in Postrevolutionary Iran: The Qashqa'i in an Era of Change

Lois Beck's most recent book, Nomads in Postrevolutionary Iran: The Qashqa'i in an Era of Change, was chosen as an Outstanding Academic Title (OATs) by CHOICE Magazine for 2015. Lois Beck is a sociocultural anthropologist with the Department of Anthropology at Washington University in St. Louis.

CHOICE Magazine publishes a list of Outstanding Academic Titles each January that were reviewed during the previous calendar year. This prestigious list reflects the best in scholarly titles reviewed by CHOICE and brings with it the extraordinary recognition of the academic library community.

CHOICE reviews some 7,000 works each year and only around ten percent are selected for this recognition. The criteria includes overall excellence in presentation and scholarship, importance relative to other literature in the field, distinction as a first treatment of a given subject in book or electronic form, originality or uniqueness of treatment, and its value to undergraduate students. The list was known as Outstanding Academic Books until 2000. The new name reflects an increase in reviews of electronic products and Internet sites.
