Primate Genetics and Molecular Ecology Lab (PGAME)

The Primate Genetics & Molecular Ecology (PGAME) laboratory is broadly focused on understanding how natural and sexual selection have shaped the genomic variation within and between populations and species, to better understand both the shared and unique characteristics of humans and their close primate relatives. We take an integrative approach to our genomics research, considering variation as it relates to the whole animal, its biology and its social and ecological environment, and incorporating demographic, health, and behavioral data available from long-term study sites. To gain access to genetic material from wild primate populations, we use non-invasive samples, like feces, urine, and hair, as a source of DNA. Our ever-evolving and expanding toolkit includes cutting edge techniques and equipment for genomics research.
