Research Interests
I am interested in understanding how human activities and craft production altered the environment during the Bronze Age in China. Bronze objects were in high demand from the Shang elite, which increased the interaction of the Shang polity and its neighbors. However, this large scale of bronze production also accelerated the environmental pollution caused by metallurgy. My current project is focused on heavy metal pollution caused by bronze production during the middle and late Shang periods in Anyang, Henan province, China.
