Tomas de Oliveira

Graduate Student in Sociocultural Anthropology

Tomás de Oliveira is a Ph.D. student in Sociocultural Anthropology at Washington University in St. Louis. His research focuses on the impact of technical objects in psychological and psychiatric treatments. His previous research with evidence-based psychologists in Brazil was supported by Brazil's funding institution, the National Council of Scientific Development. Through a multimodal ethnography, Tomás analyzed how evidence-based psychologists constructed the field of evidence-based psychology in Brazil.

Moreover, he has been engaged in anthropological research since his undergraduate studies in psychology. He served as a research assistant in the project "Indigenous Peoples Responding to COVID-19 in Brazil: Social Arrangements in a Global Health Emergency," funded by the UKRI. Additionally, he was involved in the research project "From Cosmological Tensions to the Reversibility of Meanings: Biomedical Care Among Juruá Women and Children in the Mbyá Community”.
