Mikky Deimeke

Faculty Assistant
A smiling woman with long brown hair wearing round glasses and a light blue ribbed V-neck top stands outdoors in a softly blurred walkway with natural light. She is wearing a necklace with a green pendant and has her hands in her pockets.

Mikaela is a faculty assistant for the anthropology department and a cultural anthropologist with an interest in the cross-cultural exploration and understanding of gender and sexuality. Her work is particularly focused on Indigenous gender construction and non-binary gender identities, with an emphasis on understanding the impact settler-colonialism has had on Indigenous gender identities. She is particularly interested in examining the intersections of gender, race, and class, as well as the decolonization of Indigenous gender while promoting greater understanding and respect for diverse gender expressions and experiences.
