Deborah Ruscillo

Deborah Ruscillo is Research Associate in the Department of Anthropology at Washington University in St. Louis, and lecturer at University College. She received her doctorate in Archaeological Science in 2000 at University College London from the Institute of Archaeology. She is Assistant Director for the Iklaina Archaeological Project and Laboratory Lead. She has an edited volume presenting advanced zooarchaeological methods for ageing and sexing animal bones, and over 50 articles in scholarly journals and volumes dealing with the reconstruction of ancient lifeways and landscapes in the Aegean predominantly through the analysis of faunal remains, experimental archaeology, and Paleoproteomics. She is also a specialist in Murex dye production in the Aegean. She approaches the past through an integrated perspective that considers both human activity and the broader ecological context. Her current research interests include biomolecular approaches to faunal identification, as well as biomedical anthropology intersecting biology and culture in past populations. She is certified in Biomedical Science education and Laboratory Techniques.
