
This award recognizes meritorious scientific contributions to the field of anthropology by mid-career anthropologists. It was established at the 2017 AAAS Annual meeting, to honor Bob Sussman’s embodiment of the science and spirit of Anthropology. Dr. Sussman was a leading scholar on the evolution of human and primate behavior and an influential professor with the Department of Anthropology at Washington University in St. Louis. He was named a Fellow of AAAS in 2000 and at the time of his death was the retiring chair of Section H (Anthropology).
AAAS Section H also announced members the call for the 2019 Robert W. Sussman Award for Scientific Contributions to Anthropology which recognizes meritorious scientific contributions to the field of anthropology by mid-career anthropologists.
