Graduate Program

Application Process

After reviewing the research interests of our faculty, please feel free to contact us. If you are excited about the research taking place here at Washington University, we urge you to visit our campus. While there is no centralized way to organize a department visit, you may contact individual faculty to let them know of your interest and to discuss scheduling an upcoming visit.

The Department of Anthropology accepts students only for the Ph.D. The department does not offer a terminal Master's Degree. Admission decisions are made once a year and all students are admitted for the fall semester. The deadline for application is January 1 for the following academic year. We are a highly selective department and normally admit three to four students per subfield each year from a competitive pool of U.S. and international applicants.

Applications must be submitted online to the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.

  • Submit 3 letters of recommendation and the required forms (submit recommendation requests via email through the online application).
