The James E. McLeod Honors and Awards Program aims to recognize the accomplishments of Black students, encourage those students who improve the quality of life on our campus and in the community, and acquaint the University community with the achievements and contributions of Black students. Within the James E. McLeod Honors and Awards Program, there are several awards each named after a prominent figure in African or African American History.

The Ralph Bunche Scholar Award, named for the United Nations mediator and Nobel Peace Prize recipient, is given for academic achievement to freshmen who have completed at least 14 graded units in the semester and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. It will also be given to undergraduates who have completed at least 14 graded units in the semester and have a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher for at least 3 consecutive semesters.

These students along with the other award recipients will be recognized in a ceremony this May.
